In accordance with the Canadian Professional Counsellors Association (CPCA), Registered Professional Counsellors (RPC) or Registered Professional Counsellor Candidates (RPCC) must meet rigorous educational and experiential requirements. The CPCA fosters public protection by regulating its members’ professional practice through a comprehensive Code of Ethics, competency-based assessment, ongoing evaluation, and clear expectation of compliance with professional Standards of Practice.
Members are required to adhere strictly to the CPCA’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, ensuring professional integrity and client well-being while maintaining a supervised clinical practice with liability insurance. The association emphasizes core competencies such as effective communication, ethical decision-making, and evidence-based intervention strategies. Maintaining membership involves ongoing professional development to stay aligned with evolving best practices and uphold the highest standards of care
In accordance with the Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada (ACCT), a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (RTC) or Registered Therapeutic Counsellor-Candidate (RTCC) has met the association’s rigorous standards in counselling education, training, supervised experience, ethical conduct and ongoing supervision and professional development with liability insurance.
A Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) is a regulated mental health professional with a master’s degree recognized in British Columbia. This designation is granted by the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) which governs the BCACC Code of Ethical Conduct and standards of practice and professional development (including professional liability insurance).
CCC stands for Canadian Certified Counsellor, which is a national designation awarded by the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) for those who hold a master’s degree in counselling, psychotherapy, psychology or social work and adhere to the CCPA Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
Coaching is not a regulated profession in Canada, which means it offers flexibility, creativity, and deep soul-led transformation without being confined to specific clinical or diagnostic frameworks. Often it works as an adjunct to counselling, or is very effective as a stand-alone practice.
At The Profound Lounge, our coaches are Certified by the International Coaching Federation which is internationally recognized in credentialing, ethical guidelines, and coach training standards. Our coaching is rooted in ethical, trauma-informed principles and professional training in evidence-based psychology, spiritual psychology and relational healing. While coaching is not therapy, it can be powerfully therapeutic — guiding you into clarity, confidence, and conscious leadership in all areas of your life.
Note when choosing a counsellor or coach:
Credentials are valuable — they reflect training, ethical standards, and a foundation of professional skill. However, equally important is who the person is. You’re not just choosing a set of qualifications — you’re choosing someone to walk beside you, to guide you.Consider: How do they live their life? What values do they embody? What is their version of authentic success? Does their lived experience and personal integrity resonate with the kind of support you’re seeking?
